Whether you’re editing a doc while browsing Safari, watching YouTube while chatting, or working across multiple apps at once, this guide will help you get the most out of your iPad. Works on iPad Pro, iPad Air, iPad Mini, and iPad 10th Gen or later with iPadOS 26.

show you how you can put two, three, or even four apps side by side on your iPad without any fuss. First thing you’re gonna wanna do is make sure your iPad’s Windowed Apps or Stage Manager is turned on. Just head into Settings under Multitasking and Gestures and flip that switch.
Windowed Apps and Stage Manager let you arrange multiple apps in one space so you can multitask like a pro, but remember, they won’t work with full-screen-only apps. The cool part is you can add a quick shortcut to your Control Center so you don’t have to dig into settings every time. Go into Control Center, hit the plus button, search for Multitasking Shortcut, and add it. From then on, you can turn Windowed Apps on or off right from the Control Center whenever you need it.
Now, just a heads-up, if you pick full-screen apps mode, split screen won’t work at all on any iPad running iPadOS 26. So make sure you’re actually in Windowed Apps mode first.
Once that’s ready, open the first app you want to use and press and hold on the window until the resize menu pops up. From there you can slide it to the left or the right side of your screen. Another way to do it is to swipe down from the top edge of the screen or press and hold the green button and pick which side you want it on. Then just bring up the other app you wanna use, hold on its green button, and drop it into the other side.
If you’re going for three or four apps at once, you’re gonna do the same thing — grab another app and place it in the layout you want. The resize menu will show options for three or four windows, so you can mix and match as you go.
If you’re using Stage Manager instead, the steps feel pretty similar, but you get a new option that lets you open another app straight from your Home Screen, Dock, or even the App Library without closing anything.
That’s pretty much it. If you wanna check out a more detailed guide for dragging and placing apps manually with your cursor, I’ve got a separate tutorial linked for you.

In the iPadOS 26.2 Developer Beta 3 Update, Apple brings back split screen and split view the old way on all iPads.
If you want this in a public iPadOS update, then wait at least a month from the date this video is created.
First, make sure multitasking is turned on in the settings. Go to the settings app and scroll to Multitasking & Gestures. Then select Windowed Apps or Stage Manager.
Or add it to the Control Center to turn on Stage Manager or Windowed Apps in multitasking.
Here is what I am selecting: Windowed Apps. Don’t turn on this feature; close all windows after swiping the home toggle.
Now, you can use split screen by simply dragging an app from the dock to a blank space to place it in split screen.
Or resize the main window from the bottom corner and set it to half screen. Then swipe up to go to your iPad home screen.
Open the second app. Set it side by side and hold the close menu. Then select Two Windows under the Fill & Average section.
We can rearrange the windows using the center slider.
To move any of the apps into Slide Over, hold the close menu and select Enter Slide Over.
Now, the window is easy to hide on the edge by swiping it to the side of the iPad. Then reopen it by swiping from the edge toward the center of the screen.
Or we can use the Slide Over app by dragging the app to the edge of the iPad screen, either on the left or right side.
To move any app into the Slide Over window from the dock, touch and hold the dock app icon and move it to the edge of the iPad screen.
