Rise and Fall of ABBA

https://youtu.be/gF6kZ5oelgQ?is=W2rygvnLpHyWVJO0

ABBA sold 380 million records. Their songs played at every
wedding, every disco, every school dance on the planet.

And the four people who made those songs were quietly
watching their marriages collapse in real time.

Here’s the full ABBA story:

🎤 Anni-Frid was born as the child of a wartime relationship
raised without either parent, didn’t know her father until
her thirties
💑 Two couples fell in love. Started a band. Built something
the world had never heard before.
🏆 Eurovision 1974 Waterloo changed everything. 500 million
people watching. Sweden had never won before.
💔 1979 Björn and Agnetha divorced. He had a new girlfriend
within a week. They went back into the studio.
🥃 Björn wrote The Winner Takes It All drunk on whiskey
about their marriage. He titled it “The Story of My Life.”
🎵 He gave it to Agnetha to sing. She performed it standing
next to him. It became their greatest song.
💔 1981 Benny and Anni-Frid divorced. They made one more
album. Then quietly stopped.
👾 2022 They returned as digital ABBAtars. Younger versions
of themselves performing the songs in the bodies they had
before everything fell apart.

“The most joyful music in pop history was built on something
much more complicated!”

Rare ABBA Interview

ABBA is undoubtedly Australia’s favourite pop group of all time, and that affection remains as strong today as it did four decades ago when the Swedish singers first toured the country. Recently, Björn, Benny, Agnetha & Anni-Frid returned to the studio, recording new music and preparing for a very unusual world tour. Rahni Sadler sat down with members of the band for an unforgettable interview.

ABBA You never knew DOCUMENTARY

The thing with ABBA that is mind-boggling is the ability to come up with one high-quality hit after another.” This is the definitive history of ABBA, the Swedish quartet that conquered the world and changed the DNA of popular music.

This documentary, Amplified, goes deep into the craft and the cost of their stardom:

The Breakthrough: Go behind the scenes of “Waterloo” and discover how the band “calculated” their Eurovision win by updating classic pop elements (2:03).

The ABBA Genius: Section-by-section musical analysis of masterpieces like “Mamma Mia” and “Dancing Queen,” revealing their unique use of augmented chords, rhythmic vocals, and the “most famous glissando in the world” (20:47).

The Confessional Era: The documentary tracks the shift from jaunty pop to the “heart-rending” maturity of “The Winner Takes It All” (1:09:31) and “Knowing Me, Knowing You,” exploring how their divorces fueled their greatest work.

The Legacy: Why “Thank You for the Music” remains the ultimate signature tune and how the “ABBA Template” continues to influence modern artists from Madonna to The Police (1:29:53).

This is a technical, emotional, and unfiltered look at the band that proved a pop song could be a “miniature symphony.”
