Sagaing is a major strike slip fault and now we can see why. The India Plate pushes North as the Eurasia Plate South. There is also the Burma Microplate that moves with it. One plate went one way while the other plate went the other way and boom! Same thing happened with Turkey 2 years ago. The longer and deeper the fault is then the more energy it stores and the more powerful the quake. Chile has the largest energy release at 9.0 plus. Myanmar has 8.0 plus.
