1 – Rotterdam and Flood Management inner – Dyke areas –

Our mission is to ensure that the port is a safe and healthy environment, to limit climate change and to create employment opportunities. In 2015 and 2016, we performed the Botlek Flood Risk Management pilot project, which examined potential consequences for the Botlek area of flooding as a result of climate change. The pilot project is a joint initiative of the Port of Rotterdam Authority, the Municipality of Rotterdam, the Ministry of Infrastructure and the Environment and Rijkswaterstaat. It was executed in close collaboration with various private sector firms. The results show that right now, Rotterdam’s port area is effectively protected against floods.

4 – Saving Amsterdam : Netherlands Ingenious Fight Against Rising Water / SLICE EARTH / FULL DOC 49;02

Over the years, the face of Amsterdam, known as the “Venice of the North”, has been constantly remodeled and redesigned by engineers. Using dunes, dykes, polders, and colossal dams to preserve the city from the North Sea and riverfloods, more than once, Amsterdam’s inhabitants have saved and rebuilt the city using staggering and ever more ingenious techniques.

Exacerbated by climate change, sea-level rise, which may well accelerate over the coming decades, has become a major concern for this country which has over a quarter of its land below sea level.

How is Amsterdam preparing to meet these challenges? Will the technology and infrastructures developed since the city’s foundation be enough to keep danger at bay? This investigation grasps how the Dutch invest, test, build and redesign their land again and again. In their own way, they are reshaping the planet’s future.

7- How the Netherlands Help Other Countries with Their Water Problems

In March of 2021, a significant portion of global trade came to a halt when a cargo ship became stuck in the Suez canal. Egypt was unsuccessful in getting the ship out alone. They needed help.
