For all those who interest in preserving storage pond s for drinking water supply in water scarce areas like central dry zone in Myanmar and for some ponds in Bago regions and Dala township in Yangon region .

The article was written by a former advisor to Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation ,U Htwe Myint who is a retired Director from Irrigation Department who is now 85 years old and still working to advise for some interesting matters for the sake of the proper development of our country only.

His simple methods of preventing evaporation losses can be applied in water storage ponds all over Myanmar for the loss of water in dry season .

We all suffered in 2011when most of the drinking water ponds in most of Myanmar including Central Dry zone,Bago region and Dala township in Yangon region . This event happened again this year in dry season ,2014

Normally we all average persons dig deeper the storage ponds to store more water when water dried up earlier .

It is a wonderful facts that average of 4 to 5 feet depth of water may be lost by evaporation in a year all over Myanmar when an average water depth of 10 feet can be stored in a water storage ponds .

Most of us ,even our engineer friends did not aware how much the evaporation losses were all the year round even in rainy season .( refer to the attached table of monthly evaporation loss data ( in inches per month of a year in different location of our country .Myanmar )

By using simply local materials of bamboos, thatches ,Dani or plastic sheets and a plastic boxes to float in water to prevent huge quantities of water losses by evaporation ,rural people can regain sufficient water for their domestic use and drinking water in daily life within their existing drinking water storage ponds .
I welcome any body who interested in this kind of works and who read this article to contact us at NEPS Co ,Yangon if any thing unclear or help to assist or any more feedback and inputs and comments on this works in a time of severe weather of draught and climate change in our region . I attach a rough sketches ( not in scale ) by me to clarify the report .
